The new 2022 Volkswagen Golf R unveiled earlier this month takes everything enthusiasts love about the popular and legendary Volkswagen Golf R, and improves it tenfold. The new Golf R is quicker, more powerful, more agile, more dynamic, and more luxurious. It’s everything you expect from the Golf R with a little something you don’t.
It starts under the hood where the new 2022 Volkswagen Golf R offers a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This engine is considerably more powerful than the outgoing engine which offered 288 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. No doubt about it, the new Golf R will be quicker.
It will also handle better thanks to spring and anti-roll bar rates that increase by 10%. Moreover, there’s a new electronically-controlled torque vectoring rear drive system. The Golf R has an all-wheel drive system that can send up to 50% of the torque to the rear axle. The new torque vectoring system takes that torque and can split it up to 100% on each wheel for added grip and improved handling. Better yet, this can create fun oversteer situations and the new Golf R even comes with a Drift Mode as well as a new Race Mode.
