There are a lot of options in the two-row midsize SUV segment. The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is one of the most recent models, that’s for sure, but the Ford Edge has been around for a while and does have a lot to offer. The question is how important is performance, sportiness, luxury, and refinement to you? Both the Atlas Cross Sport and the Edge are spacious and versatile, but the Atlass Cross Sport has the advantage when it comes to comfort.

Both strive to deliver options and choices for everyone, from safety features, powertrains to  luxury amenities. The Atlas Cross Sport is more refined, however, and packed with more technology. That’s the to be expected as it is more modern.

Both of these SUVs provide ample space for five occupants and all their gear for a long weekend of camping and various other activities. They also include intuitive infotainment displays with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard as well as numerous safety features such as  Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian monitoring and blind spot monitoring.

When you step inside, however, you will notice that the Atlas Cross Sport is more luxurious. Indeed, everything from the leather to the trim to the design of the infotainment system is more upscale in the Volkswagen. For the more discerning luxury and technology-hungry buyer, the Atlas Cross Sport can be equipped with such high-end amenities as the 12.3-inch Volkswagen digital cockpit and a 12-speaker Fender Premium audio system.

These SUVs both come standard with AWD; 4MOTION AWD for the Atlas Cross Sport and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive for the Edge. From the onset, both are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. The Atlas Cross Sport delivers 235 horsepower which is slight less than the Edge, but the way it is configured the Volkswagen actually feels faster.

For those that require more aptitudes such as towing abilities, the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport can be equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 which is good for 276-horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque. With it, the Volkswagen can tow up to 5,000 lb.
