2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport vs. 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe

The new Atlas Cross Sport is an SUV that offers 4MOTION AWD handling, powerful engine options, generous interior volume and new amenities. Three trim levels offer a generous level of standard equipment and your choice of either turbocharged four-cylinder or naturally aspirated six-cylinder engines. Volkswagen also offers a four-year, 80,000 km limited warranty and free extended coverage in other areas. Here, we compare the Atlas Cross Sport to an established competitor, the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe.

The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport has better engine choices

Two engines available in each Cross Sport trim offer a wide range of horsepower and torque. A 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder generates 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It delivers horsepower at a much lower rpm than the Santa Fe, beginning at 4,500 rpm versus 6,000 rpm. The Santa Fe also includes a turbo four in its AWD trim levels, but you can only access it at higher grade levels.

The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport also offers a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre six-cylinder for each trim. It outputs 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The only other engine the Santa Fe offers is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder that just reaches 185 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.

Every Atlas Cross Sport features AWD, but not all Santa Fe trims do.

More room, more possibilities in the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport

It’s important that your new SUV passes the versatility test, including cargo volume capabilities. The Atlas Cross Sport features 2,203 litres of room. This surpasses the Santa Fe by 180 litres, which is enough for more suitcases, bags, camping gear and more. The Volkswagen also offers 1,141 litres behind the rear seats and surpasses the Santa Fe by 120 litres in the same configuration.

When seating room is important, occupants enjoy an average of 60 mm of additional front and rear shoulder room in the Atlass Cross Sport versus what the Santa Fe offers.

Volkswagen knows that safety is important to your family. That’s why you will find Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Cross Traffic Alert, and Rear Parking Aid on the Atlas Cross Sport. However, some of these features are not available with the Santa Fe.
