2020 Atlas Cross Sport vs. 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Atlas Cross Sport is generating excitement in the mid-size SUV segment. With a unique design, 4MOTION AWD, Volkswagen handling and more create an enjoyable driving experience. Volkswagen offers an additional peace of mind with an outstanding warranty. It is also important to compare this new SUV to established competitors in its class to help illustrate how the Atlas Cross Sport matches up. Here, we compare it to the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport has a better warranty

A new SUV is an investment, and any new model should have the backing of its manufacturer. Volkswagen includes a four-year / 80,000 km (whichever comes first) bumper-to-bumper limited warranty on each model. The Grand Cherokee’s bumper-to-bumper warranty doesn’t go so far at three years / 60,000 km. Both vehicles include a five-year / 100,000 km limited powertrain warranty.

Volkswagen also grants a seven-year, unlimited kilometre corrosion perforation warranty period on 2020 models. This lasts only five years on the Grand Cherokee.

The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport turns up the cargo volume

The Atlas Cross Sport cabin is more comfortable and features more equipment and style than the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s aging interior. The available Fender Premium Audio System with 12 speakers plus subwoofer and the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit infuse a dose of technology combined with a European flare the Grand Cherokee is unable to provide.

The Atlas Cross Sport also offers more passenger and cargo volume, too. With the rear seats folded, the Volkswagen features 2203 litres of volume. The Jeep offers 269 fewer litres, which is nearly a trunk-sized deficiency. Behind the rear seats, the Volkswagen packs 1,141 litres versus the Jeep’s 1,028 in the same configuration.

Price matters with the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport

With a starting MSRP of $41,000, the Volkswagen offers better entry price than the Jeep at $43,186. However, if you want the highest grade level from either line, it will cost you nearly twice as much with the Grand Cherokee.

And no matter which Grand Cherokee you purchase, you only have the option of 4WD. The Volkswagen features 4MOTION AWD, which is much more advanced and better suited for more of Canada’s road conditions.
