The 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan and the 2019 Jeep Cherokee are two compact SUVs with a distinct yet very different personality. The 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan is a refined compact sport utility vehicle that focuses on balancing comfort and performance. Experts consider the Tiguan as a slightly more elegant and luxurious option than its rivals, thanks to exclusive technologies such as the Virtual Cockpit, among others.
The Jeep Cherokee is known for its prowess off the beaten track. It excels in the woods, but not necessarily on the road compared to other compact SUVs. Let's see how it compares to the Volkswagen Tiguan.
The Volkswagen Tiguan offers a single engine, but when we look at the specifications we realize that it does not need to offer more. The new 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan is available with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 184 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to the magic of turbocharging, this engine delivers its performance with much more confidence and at a much lower speed. This translates into a high level of performance and an SUV that just feels faster.
It also achieves a very reasonable fuel economy rating of only 10.7 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 8.0 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway.
The Jeep Cherokee offers three engines including the entry-level powertrain that offers 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. This engine is not only less powerful than the Tiguan, but it also displays the same fuel economy. The Cherokee is also offered with a V6 engine, but its fuel consumption climbs considerably.
In closing, the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan is much more spacious than the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. While the latter offers only 751 liters of cargo space, the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan offers more than 1,050 liters. The difference is considerable. Add to that a more affordable starting price for the Tiguan and you really have many reasons to opt for the new Volkswagen SUV.
