2021 Volkswagen Tiguan vs 2021 Ford Escape

The compact SUV segment is packed with impressive competitors that give you a lot of interior space and plenty of driving pleasure. As a matter of fact, what we find in this segment is that you could almost draw a line down the middle and split the personalities of the models that are offered. The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan and the 2021 Ford Escape for example, are more designed for buyers who want space but also want to have fun behind the wheel.

The biggest difference between the Tiguan and the Escape, can be found in the amount of space that they offer, however. Both are enjoyable on the road while also being comfortable, but the Tiguan is quite a bit more spacious. And when you compare what is under the hood, you realize that the Tiguan is also a lot more powerful. Let's take a closer look.

A lot more space in the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan offers an impressive 1,065 litres of cargo space with all seats in place and over 2,000 litres of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. The Ford Escape, although it has gotten bigger with this new generation, only offers 869 litres of space and total cargo space is 1,800 litres.  The difference is quite significant and if you have an active lifestyle that requires you to carry a lot of gear or a lot of groceries, you will notice the difference between the Escape and the Tiguan.

There's also more space inside the Volkswagen and the Tiguan is one of the only compact SUVs to offer owners the possibility of a third row of seats. This tells you everything you need to know about how much space there actually is inside the Tiguan.

Powering the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan is a 2.0 L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 184 horsepower along with 221 pound-feet of torque. This is a similar engine to the escape in the sense that the Escape also has a turbocharged engine, but it is a three-cylinder powertrain and as such, it has a very different feel that not everyone will enjoy. It also has less power with 180 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. The difference is significant.
